Few wines have seen such a rise to acclaim as Soave. Once written-off as a workhorse of cheap and forgettable table whites, the region has steadily increased in quality since the 1990s; with the best sites in the Classico zone now producing wines that can stand beside great Chablis or Vouvray - textural, serious and delicious.
Le Battistelle is a textbook example of modern, well-made Soave. The nose is abundant with stonefruit, baked apple and citrus zest. On the palate, there's a chalky, mineral core, with a light lees influence adding a custardy, rounded texture. The palate is focused and structured - peach, pear and white florals, with Soave's signature almond note evident on the finish. Firm acidity carries a long, clean finish. The wine is very moreish, and would pair effortlessly with range of dishes - from scallops to risotto, roast chicken, or soft goat's cheese.
