The world-famous Valpolicella region, near Verona, Italy, is best known for producing Amarone, the rich and powerful red wine made from indigenous grapes like Corvina and Rondinella. Lesser known, but equally excellent, are the fresher, lighter styles made with the same grapes - like this Classico by cult producer Monte Dall'Ora.

Named after the sasseti - the small stones scattered through the estate’s ancient limestone soils - the wine is grown in traditional pergola and farmed biodynamically. Super-approachable, food-friendly with lots of personality, it’s Valpolicella at its most drinkable, and a great example of what the region excels at beyond Amarone.

Ruby red in the glass, showing red cherry and juicy plum alongside floral, white pepper woody herbal notes. Light and vinous on the palate, it’s crunchy, mineral and refreshing, with lively acidity, a gentle bitterness and a clean, tasty finish. Lightly chill and pair with grilled chicken or pasta alla nerano.
