La Famille - Our family of iconic wines of the world
There's a reason the La Famille range has become our best-selling international collection at Everyday Wine. These wines massively overdeliver for the price - and that's entirely by design.
"La Famille" translates to "The Family" in French and that's what this range represents; it's a family of wines sourced from some of the world's most iconic wine regions - mostly French - but we have even had a Montepulciano from Abruzzo, Tempranillo from Rioja and Sparkling Shiraz from South Australia too.
The idea behind La Famille is simple: source exceptional wines directly from great producers, remove unnecessary layers, and offer customers direct access to benchmark wines from top regions at prices no one else can achieve.
So How Are The Prices So Good?
Traditionally, imported wine passes through several hands before it reaches your glass. A winery might sell to an agent, then an importer, then a distributor, then finally a retailer — with margins added at every stage.
We work differently - the wines are selected directly by the Everyday Wine team and imported exclusively by us, often in large custom-labelled parcels sourced from respected estates in each region. Because the wines come directly through Everyday Wine’s own importing network, there are fewer markups and far more control over pricing.
That means customers can drink authentic Chablis, Vouvray or Côtes du Rhône without paying luxury-wine pricing. The savings come from us shortening the supply chain, not from compromising on quality.
The real strength of the La Famille range is sourcing
A lot of importers and retailers in New Zealand purchase wine from from anonymous brokers or negociants - people they have never met - and don't have any relationship with the estate or grower. Everyday Wine is different in that it's owned and run by Dan Gillett, founder of Wine Diamonds, who has been importing wine into New Zealand for over 10 years and has direct relationships with all of the estates we work with.
Why not under the producer's own-label?
A lot of wineries hate discounting their wines and would rather not sell at lower prices than sell at all. Sadly this mindset often means they suffer unduly. Putting the wines under our own label gives us complete control, let's us signify that we have chosen them (they are often our own tank or parcel selections), and it lets the producer maintain the price point they want (but still get much-needed sales).
