All hail the Jura . . An appellation that has made its way into my life over the last 2 year, starting with its Red’s (Ploussard and Trousseau) before landing in paradise aka Savagnin and without doubt become one of the all-time favourites. The grape variety - Savagnin (not to be confused with Sauvignon) is a banger, whether it be made in an oxidative style or like this one ’ouillé’, to be made in a non-oxidative style. Pour a glass, sit back and shed a tear of joy to pure happiness.
In the words of the producer, Yandra is enormously likeable. I feel like that is all you need to know. Chardonnay from The Basket Range in Adelaide, one of my absolute “must drink all their wines” regions. If you’ve been in the store then you know my love for the producers over there, 9 years in AUS has left me biased. Anyway, a ripper example of Chardonnay coming from there that I have been dabbling with over the last few months. Summer drinking, enjoy.
Back on home soil, it’s only fair to celebrate some of the latest drops from producers around NZ. Cracking new ‘Noveau’ Pinot Noir from Central Otago, super fresh and blasting fruits. Drink chilled. . seriously drink chilled, it’s a vibe! Kudos to the team at Alpine Wines, they grew up just around the corner from me in Welly – proud as punch.
