Good value drinking isn't about drinking the cheapest thing going. It's about making sure you don't waste a single dollar on anything sub-par, or less than interesting. Here are 6 of our favourite wines that we'd happily buy ourselves, and quite often do....  not a drink wasted, not a dollar wasted.

2019 Renardat-Fâche 'Bugey Cerdon' Méthode Ancestrale Poulsard Gamay NoirStylistically this is still a demi-sec (slightly sweet) sparkling rosé, made in the traditional Bugey-Cerdon / méthode ancestrale / disgorged pet-nat style, but more savoury so perhaps a little more mature in style.

2019 Unkel 'Carnival' Sauvignon Blanc - Not at all like a Marlborough Sauvignon, or anything near there really, despite being from Nelson. Stonefruit, minerality, salinity. Bloody smart, and seems to be drinking now better than ever.

NV 'Cat Wine' Orange Pinot Gris, Blanc & Gewürztraminer The epitome of orange wine! This is a juicy blend of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer.

2019 Els Vinyerons 'Lluerna' Xarel-lo - "Cha-rell-oh", which is a variety most commonly grown in Spain for sparkling wines. Something here we really like - it's a bit like a luscious, textural Pinot Gris but way more interesting. Dry, textural, luscious.

2021 Native & Ancient Pinot Noir A soft and supple fruit-dense Pinot Noir from Marlborough with savoury earthy tones, good tannin and plenty of structure.

2019 Abbia Nòva 'Sensa Vandalismi' Cesanese del Piglio - From Lazio, Italy (near Rome) - a bright, vibrant ruby red wine that’s bursting with violet, red plum and pomegranate.
