Gravel Down is one of the latest additions to New Zealand's burgeoning scene of small, independent, organic, natural wine producers. Here winemaker Laurence Brand and partner Rebecca Thorne produces a variety of wines across the North Island, with the majority being made in Henderson, Auckland.
From certified organic Flora (a rare crossing of Sémillon and Gewürzrtraminer), Grüner Veltliner, Verdelho and Petit Manseng, this field blend was hand harvested, co-fermented together on skins for two weeks, then pressed into aged French oak for 8 months. Unfiltered, unfined (vegan). Just 1 barrel produced.
From Laurence: "Tasting Notes: Elegant aromas of cranberry, red current and rosewater. Tight line of granny smith acid gives immense length and structure. All framed together by plum skin and pithy phenolics. Enjoy chilled."
