She's a long-winded story this one, and rightfully so, because this is quite a wine.

Fiona Wood is James Erskine's organic viticultural specialist and assistant. Fiona's father, Ralph, planted this vineyard in Clarendon (South Australia) where it's dry-grown too, which is to say the vineyard has never been irrigated. The vines, which struggle for water, are left to burrow deep into the soils where they eventually slake their thirst in the ancient iron-rich soils below.

These soils impart incredible minerality and aromatics, so this Shiraz is deep, concentrated and plush to its core. Plum, blackberry, earthy, forest floor and smoke. Incredibly fine, talcy tannins. What a wine. Open, decant, and let it evolve in the glass before you.

Jauma ("Yaow-ma") are some of the earliest natural wines known to Australia and some of the first natural wines to ever make it to New Zealand. Winemaker James Erskine is based in South Australia where he and organic viticultural specialist Fiona Wood farm several vineyards together, often with a focus on old-vine, dry-grown bush vines. All of James's wines are organic, wild fermented, unadjusted, unfiltered, unfined (vegan) and with no added sulphites.
