2020 Commune of Buttons Northern Lights

Northern Lights is new cuvée from a heritage vineyard in Vine Vale, Barossa, belonging to Wayne Ahrens and Suzi Hilder of Small Fry Wines. Biodynamically farmed vineyard, some very old vine material dating back to when Barossa was mostly producing fortified wines - some of the vines are original plantings at 100 years old. Grenache, Cinsault and Mataro (Mourvèdre), all co-fermented with Bonvedro juice over the top. 20% whole bunches, but only from the Grenache and Cinsault portions. Long, cool fermentation over three weeks, then aged in fibreglass for one year. Fine tannins and acidity but a beautiful sappiness from the Mataro and Grenache that only true blue South Australian seems to get. A wine of real depth and complexity.

Everyday Wine got a tiny allocation of 12 bottles of each cuvée!
