Waikoa - translates to happy waters in Te Reo Māori. Waina ma – white wine.
A skin fermented blend of white wine varietals that create an aromatic and textural wine. The 2021 vintage is a blend of Riesling, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris.
The Waikoa blend is sourced from Gladstone vineyard sites in the northern end of the Wairarapa valley. The vineyards are managed by Urlar, the fruit is farmed organically and is either certified or on its journey to certification with BioGro.
The blend is made of 33% Riesling 30% Sauvignon Blanc 27% Viognier and 10% Pinot Gris. Each component is fermented on skins separately and then the blend is composed after many blending trials. The aim of this wine is to create something energetic and intriguing. The aroma is of spice, stonefruit and citrus the palate edgy andsalivating with great acidity and phenolic balance.
Enjoy slightly chilled / cellar temperature, this wine should age well though it has minimal So2 additions.
