If you've been drinking natural wine in New Zealand for a while now, chances are you will have come across Jauma and one of his Chenin Blancs. Blewitt Springs is one of James's favourite vineyards, positioned on the sandy, schisty soils in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale (South Australia). Here, old dry-grown bush vines of Chenin Blanc have been tended to by hand since the 1940s, and James has simply coaxed this into bottle by way of hand-harvesting, then pressing directly into aged French oak barrels for fermentation and maturation.

Chenin Blanc in its purest form. Tight, taut and incredibly lengthy in finish. Green apple, lemon, lime. The acidity of this Chenin is so refreshing it'll keep you reaching for glass after glass until the bottle is gone. Bloody awesome, we think.

Jauma ("Yaow-ma") are some of the earliest natural wines known to Australia and some of the first natural wines to ever make it to New Zealand. Winemaker James Erskine is based in South Australia where he and organic viticultural specialist Fiona Wood farm several vineyards together, often with a focus on old-vine, dry-grown bush vines. All of James's wines are organic, wild fermented, unadjusted, unfiltered, unfined (vegan) and with no added sulphites.
