Pinot Noir from Waipara, North Canterbury, affectionately known as New Zealand's best Pinot Noir grape growing region with both clay and limestone soils, interesting vineyard sites, good elevation and a cool, temperate climate.

Gourmandise is Valmont's lighter and fresher Pinot Noir, made in more of a Beaujolais style than 'No Compromise' (which is denser, darker and more 'Burgundian').

Valmont Wines were made by the lovely French couple Jean-Yves & Sophie who moved to New Zealand after working for Yvon Métras in Beaujolais and Matthieu Barret at Domaine du Coulet in Cornas for a number of years. Sadly, our friends have moved back to France, but when we were recently offered the opportunity to purchase all of the 2017 wines made by Jean-Yves it was an easy decision!
